Cardamine: Phenalkamine Epoxy Curing Agents

Phenalkamine curing agents are established cross-linking agents used with epoxy resins in the formulation of coating systems. These service numerous market sectors including coatings for the marine, transport, civil engineering and construction sectors as well as industrial protective coatings and anti-corrosion protection.

We offer a range of industry standard phenalkamines that have long established application history and can be used across many sectors. Our in-house R&D team use their chemical know-how to make subtle technological improvements to the standard grades thereby enhancing performance and reducing regulatory pressures.

Our series of next generation products offer significant advantages over the conventional grades with lower toxicity, much faster thin film cure speed and improved film performance.

Phenalkamines have a red/brown colouration and whilst this may hinder their aesthetic appeal it in no way detracts from their performance.

We also offer a range of lighter coloured alternatives with colour levels of Gardner 10 maximum. However, these products are not suitable for formulating low colour coatings and are not UV stable. We can discuss other materials for aesthetic applications.

Cardamine Enhancements

Whilst all of the grades contained in the below table are characterised by tolerant mix ratio, high flexibility and moisture resistance, there have been several enhancements in phenalkamine technology, providing further movement in product performance with particular emphasis on:

  • Reducing handling issues
  • Enhancing cure speeds and cure under adverse conditions
  • Improving overcoatability
  • Increasing hydrophobicity and corrosion protection
